"Roth writes the Schearls’ arguments and expostulations in distinctly Yiddish flavors and cadences, drawing you in so deeply that whenever the characters are forced to speak in their rough English, it sounds as jarring to you as it does to them."
Booooooooooring. Snxxx Henry Roth you are a snooze and I am asleep drooling all over the desk when you bring up your unoriginal Mommy issues. You want an actually interesting coming-of-age story about the immigrant Jewish experience in the early 20th century? Bronx Primitive. Written by a woman, Kate Simon. Way less whiny, and with more wisdom, as Kate wrote her book when she was in her 80s, whereas Henry Roth write this in his 20s. And her Daddy issues are actually legit. Support the underdog and support women writers!
Fun fact: I majored in literature with an emphasis on Jewish literature. L’chaim!
